SMART Moves Prevention
/ Education
SMART (Skills Mastery And Resistance
Training) Moves addresses the problem of drug and alcohol use and
premature sexual activity. Based on proven techniques, the
program uses a team approach involving Club staff, peer leaders,
parents, and community representatives.
More than simply emphasizing
a "Say No" message, the program teaches young people ages
6 to 15 how to say "No" by involving them in age-appropriate
discussion and role-playing, practicing resistance and refusal skills,
developing assertiveness, strengthening decision-making skills and
analyzing media and peer influence.
The ultimate goal is to
promote abstinence from substance abuse and adolescent sexual involvement
through the practice of responsible behavior.

Healthy Kids
Healthy Kids is a nutrition education program sponsored by the Unilever Corporation. In this 6-week program, children meet twice a week to learn the importance of eating healthy and staying physically active. Youth learn about a range of topics including understanding the food pyramid, preparing healthy snacks, proper hand-washing and food safety, and understanding the importance of daily physical activity. In addition, youth are given a chance to try new healthy food alternatives that they may not have chosen for themselves. Youth also utilize computers and the internet to explore healthy recipes and learn more about living a healthy lifestyle.
The Healthy Kids program is offered as three 6-week sessions during the year: summer, fall, and spring. Program sign-ups will be announced.
