Education programs help youth create aspirations for the future, providing opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.

Computer Lab

  • Fifteen computer stations with Internet access
  • Four additional tables with four seats each
  • Educational CD-ROMs available for use
  • Staffed by at least one counselor at all times

Skill Tech: Basic Training

Computer skills have become increasingly essential for ensuring success in school and the workplace. Moreover, technology skills also enrich and organize personal lives. For these reasons, the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is proud to offer Skill Tech. Skill Tech is a program aimed to familiarize youth with technology, particularly basic computer skills, productivity software and Internet use. Using interactive lessons and hands-on, instructor-led group activities, members learn skills for Microsoft software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Digital Image Pro.

NetSmartz

The Internet offers many social, educational and entertainment resources for young people. Learning to access and navigate the Net safely and ethically allows youths to benefit from such resources while minimizing potential risks. NetSmartz is an Internet safety program produced to teach and reinforce skills, knowledge and attitudes supporting safe and ethical use of the Internet.

Reading Program

If your child is between the ages 6-10 they are eligible to participate in the HORIZON FOUNDATION for NEW JERSEY HEALTH LITERACY PROGRAM taking place January thru June 2009. The program is free and takes place at the Boys and Girls Club and next door at the Garfield Public Library. Children will be given

one-on-one reading assistance by a trained teen mentor for two hours each week. The program aims to increase reading skills, grades, and self-esteem. Spaces are limited so sign up quickly!
