Jr. Boilermakers In the Super Bowl

Tue, 11/15/2011

On May 5th of this year, the Garfield Junior Boilermakers, started their registration for the 2011 Season and on November 19th, their Pee Wee and Senior Programs will compete in the inaugural Super Bowls in the Bergen Passaic Youth Football League.  The games, at Dumont High School, will start at Noon and Three O'clock on Saturday.

The Junior Boilermakers, who have not competed in a Super Bowl since 2007, are on the verge of completing a season of previously unsurpassed success on and off the field, as on Friday, their Junior Program under the direction of former Garfield High School Quarterback Mike Messina participated in the first round of the playoffs, losing to the Wayne Boys and Girls Club ... 12 to 8, in a hotly contested game in Wyckoff.

The Number One seeded Pee Wee and Junior Teams, under the direction of Coach Freddy Reyes and former St. Joseph's Regional star, Jon Szucs respectively, each won their Semi Final games on Saturday ... in front of a packed house in Garfield,  7 to 6 and 21 to 14, beating the Wayne Boys and Girls Club and Dumont.

The Pee Wees ... who were 7 and 1 in the regular season will play the Ridgewood Junior Maroons who they beat 19 to 6 earlier in the season. Coach Freddy Reyes, is confident that his "Bend But Don't Break Defense", which has carried him to great success this season, will be the difference in the Super Bowl.

The Seniors ... who were undefeated in the regular season will play the Wayne PAL Wolfpack, who they defeated 16 to 8 and 21 to 7 in the regular season. Coach Jon Szucs, who has played and coached the Jr. Boilermakers ... will count on his explosive offense to seal the deal in the Super Bowl.

It has been a dream season for the Junior Boilermakers, who are in their second season under the umbrella of the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield ... one that they know they will end with two Super Bowl Trophies hoisted high in the air in Dumont on Saturday Afternoon.

If there directions are needed to Dumont High School to root on these great kids and coaches, please contact the Boys & Girls Club at 973 478-7662.
