Irene Brown

Irene Brown, Unit Director, A registered nurse and Garfield native, Irene graduated from Garfield High School and subsequently received her nursing degree.  Prior to nursing in geriatrics at Bergen Pines, Irene held assorted positions within the printing, computer software industries and farming community.  Her focus later turned to working with children and became employed at the Boys and Girls Club of Garfield where she has worked for the past 12 years.  A Certified Pool Operator (CPO), Irene's credentials include the American Red Cross Life guard, First Aid, CPR and AED Instructor certifications, all essential in the care and well being of the club's children.  Under Irene’s leadership as the Unit director the Club has grown it membership significantly in the last three years.  Irene shows a real commitment to the values and mission of the organization.

Additionally, in 2010, Irene was the honored recipient of the prestigious Boys & Girls Club of America Herman S. Prescott Award for the Northeast Region.  This award is given to an individual that embraces and is an advocate for the rights and dignity of all. Her belief in the principles of diversity, equality and empowerment is a hallmark of her work within the Boys & Girls Club’s Movement.
