Boys & Girls Club of Garfield Gets Two More Awards for its Service
to the City of Champions.
The Boys and Girls Club of Garfield saw its dedication and commitment to serving the community rewarded at a Boys & Girls Clubs of New Jersey Conference in Atlantic City. Two of its employees, Chief Executive Officer, Paul Casey and Unit Director, Irene Brown were honored for their service. The Garden State Chapter of the Professional Association, which is a membership organization that represents the interests of Boys & Girls Club professionals across the United Sates, declared Casey Executive of the Year and applauded his outstanding service to the profession and the youth served. Mr. Casey, who was appointed in 2008, expressed true gratitude at the ceremony. “It is a great honor to be recognized by my peers. I was honored to be nominated by my mentor Russell Triolo, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Union County. But, I never could have received this award without the work of my Board of Trustees, volunteers and staff that I work alongside each day. All of their hard work is what enables me to do my job and do it well. Each person here works to consistently reach and exceed all expectations. It is an honor to serve the children and parents of the Garfield community. This Club is one of the greatest Clubs in the State of New Jersey and I am just honored to be part of this!”
The Club’s second major honor, the Herman S Prescott Award, commends Unit Director, Irene Brown for her outstanding service to the profession and youth served. Well known amongst her staff members for cultivating excellence, Brown was given special recognition for her belief in the principles of diversity, equality, and empowerment, along with her willingness to advocate for the rights and dignity of all. For more than a decade, she has directed her time and effort to the empowerment of the young people in the Garfield community and has seen the Club through some of its best and worst moments.
For 51 years the Boys & Girls Club of Garfield has cemented itself as the cornerstone of child development services in the community. These awards are a reflection of that service and a public testament to the safe, respectful environment that the Club represents. Members of the community and the Board of Trustees alike have expressed both their gratitude and congratulations. Vice President of Finance Ciro Giue, offered his congratulations saying, “Paul and Irene, very well done and well deserved. You continue to serve the youth of our community and our club in a manner that makes us all proud. Thank you for representing Garfield - The City of Champions - so well. The Garfield Boys and Girls Club has had a long history of quality professionals that have served the children of our community well and contributed well to the Boys and Girls Club Movement. The recognition that you two have just received is proof that our club continues to contribute to the movement in a positive way and that our club is vital to the children of our community and to the movement. Congratulations!!” The Club’s receipt of these two awards speaks to a slow but sure shift toward a healthier, better educated, more engaged Garfield Community.
